Origins
The Two Byte Blog came about when early in my career I was finding it difficult to remember all of the various technologies I was required to learn for my job. To address this, I created this website as a notepad I could reference whenever and wherever needed. As time went along I started to formalize my notes and create complete articles from them.
Nowadays I write my various notes within Obsidian, consolidating and editing any I wish to share with the wider community. One-off items are published to my blog with larger topics becoming collections.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where did the name of the site come from?
The inspiration for the website’s name came from my mom, who use to always say:
How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.
As any IT person will tell you we’re always learning and it always feels like there is a ever-growing mountain of information in front of us :)
What are you using to run your website?
The website is a modified version of the Hugo-based Hextra theme. The site itself runs on Cloudflare Pages generated from a GitHub repository.
Do you use AI?
I personally believe that AI is a tool, no different than the search engine or the internet itself. I use AI to assist in finding solutions to problems and writing code. I like the idea that AI is a reverse search engine. It splits out an answer and its up to me to understand and validate it. In the process I learn new ways of working with the technology I use to perform my job.
Does AI write your blog posts?
No, never. When you read my site, I want you to feel like you’re speaking directly with me, not an impersonal AI chatbot. I do use AI for general proof-reading (grammer/punctuation) but nothing more.
How long have you been in the field?
I’ve been in the technical space for fifteen years, with ten of those years in Systems Administration.
